Introducing: Sold Portfolio on Dhan

Dear Investors,

At Dhan, we’ve always believed that one becomes better with Investing or Trading by lessons the markets teach us. Every decision in the market has a lesson that one can learn from. Every decision, whether it’s a strong buy or a well-timed exit, carries valuable insights. And to help our users grow with such decisions, we’re excited to introduce a new and very innovative feature: Exit or Sold Portfolio.

This is a unique view inside your Portfolio section that allows you to revisit the Stocks and ETFs that you’ve fully exited. Whether you’re evaluating your past moves or simply curious about how those investments are performing post selling, Exit Portfolio offers a clear, easy-to-understand lens on your past investing decisions.

Of course, and while we are on this topic you also know that Dhan provides very comprehensive Portfolio Insights on the investments / holdings that are already in your portfolio.

What is an Exit Portfolio?

Exit or Sold Portfolio is exclusively shown when you’ve completely sold off or exited a Stock or ETF from your holdings on Dhan. This includes both Stocks and ETFs, but excludes Mutual Funds for now.

Unlike the standard portfolio, this feature becomes visible on a per-symbol basis. For instance, if you once held 100 shares of SBI and have now sold all 100, only then will SBI appear in the Sold Portfolio. However, if even 1 share of SBI is still in your account, it will not be shown here. The view activates only after full exit of a particular scrip / stock.

Here’s What You’ll See:

For every Stock or ETF you’ve fully exited, Exit Portfolio presents the following:

  • Stock/ETF Name – From your previously held scrip
  • Last Sold On – The date you exited your full position in that scrip
  • Peak Shares – The highest number of shares you held before selling
  • Last Sold At – The average price at which you exited
  • LTP – The current market price of the scrip
  • Notional P&L – A hypothetical gain/loss, had you held on till now

This view helps you understand what the investment is doing today compared to when you sold it.

Why This Matters: Your Decision Reflected

To make this even more insightful, we analyze your exit decision:

  • If LTP is higher than your sell price → Missed Opportunity (Wrong Decision)
  • If LTP is lower than your sell price → Well-Timed Exit (Right Decision)
  • If there’s no major difference → (Neutral Outcome)

It’s a simple yet powerful way to build self-awareness, refine strategies, and see how your sell decisions are playing out.

Additional Smart Enhancements

  • If there’s been a Corporate Action (like a bonus or split) after your exit, we adjust the data to reflect the true impact — bonus-adjusted shares and prices will be shown to maintain accuracy
  • Currently available on the Dhan App, coming soon to Web
  • You have been given settings in Portfolio Options where you can turn-off the Exit Portfolio.

Why We Built Exit Portfolio

We designed Sold Portfolio to help you:

  • Reflect on exit strategies with real data
  • Learn from both right and wrong decisions
  • Reinforce or rethink your investing style
  • Add depth to your portfolio tracking, even after positions are closed

At Dhan, we constantly build tools that empower our users to take charge of their financial journey, not just through features that assist in execution, but through insights that shape long-term conviction.

Exit Portfolio is one more step in helping you grow as a more informed and confident investor.

What do you think about this?

@MahimaShah @shraddha A good feature, but there is 1 issue that I am facing. I see the list of stocks in the “Sold” section of the Portfolio, but on clicking on these stocks, it doesn’t do anything. It should at least open the stock page so that we can buy again. Is this developed only for viewing at the moment is it? Also this “Sold” section isn’t available on the web app.

I don’t think I’ll be using this feature.

Good companies do build value over time, but in real life, everyday expenses and unexpected financial needs make it hard for most people to stay invested. For many—probably 8 out of 10—holding on for years just isn’t realistic.

For me, anything that reminds me of past losses or missed chances is something I’d rather avoid. I like using things that make me feel positive and remind me of good experiences, not the stressful ones.

I’ve shared this before, but I really disliked getting those weekly portfolio reports. They used to bother me a lot, especially during market downturns.

Anyone else feel the same way?

Hi @nitishbangera

As rightly mentioned by you, the feature is currently available only for viewing purposes, to help you gain insights on your sold scrips.
We’ve noted your feedback and will work on redirecting it to the respective company page.
Also, this feature is a work in progress for the Web platform and will be available there soon.

Yeh dard kahe khatam nahi hota.

@MahimaShah See the stupid me just 12 months back. :smiling_face_with_tear:

@MahimaShah Thank you for the update. I see real potential in this feature, and you can extend it by notifying the user when the sale drops by a configured percentage from the previous sale without the user needing to set a price alert explicitly. It’s a welcoming change for me as I can now shift from my Google sheet for the same thing.

@thisisbanerjee Seeing this is real pain. Slightly off-topic, I wonder why you didn’t re-enter later, as BSE fell with its PE coming down to good levels.

I had a lot going on with my life, couldn’t really focus on portfolio these past 10-12 months. :smiling_face_with_tear: Like I said, I am stupid.

@Dhan an enhancement for this feature. Can you also add “entered at”?

Hi @thisisbanerjee

Mine too shows something along those lines, great opportunity to reflect, gain insights, and plan re-entry or reassess past decisions.

Hi @nitishbangera

Thanks for the feedback! We’ll definitely think it through and see how we can incorporate it.

@MahimaShah @Dhan I checked the Sold portfolio and now I can click and enter the stock page to make a buy or a sell. Is there any reason to skip showing the “Sold” portfolio on web.dhan.co? I would also like to know when you can add “entered at”?

Hi @nitishbangera, this feature isn’t designed to provide PnL of past trades, however, we will evaluate the possibility of adding entry prices of scrips as well. For the web platform, this is expected to go live by the end of this month.

@Mohseen_Usmani Another case where you haven’t understood what the question was. I never asked for P&L. The only question was if you could show “exit at” then you can also show “entered at”. FYI you can still get this from the Journal.

Showing “Sold” portfolio for web.dhan.co well the wait is till end of the month which is fair enough.

@Dhan @Mohseen_Usmani The “Sold“ portfolio is still not available on web.dhan.co. Can you please tell me when can “Sold“ portfolio be expected on the Web app?

@Dhan @Mohseen_Usmani Any updates on when can we see the “Sold“ portfolio on web.dhan.co?
