Opening Multiple Demat Accounts with Different Brokers – Email and Mobile Number Doubt

Hello Bulls and Bears,

I had a doubt about opening demat accounts with more than one broker and thought of asking here.

From what I know, it’s allowed to have multiple demat accounts as long as they are with different brokers. But I am a bit confused about the contact details part.

Is it okay if I use a different email address for each account? For example, using Gmail “plus” addresses (like myname+broker1@gmail.com, myname+broker2@gmail.com, etc.).

At the same time, can I keep the same mobile number linked to all these accounts?

Has anyone here done this in practice? Do brokers or depositories (like CDSL/NSDL) have any restrictions on using the same phone number but different emails? Or is it always better to keep the same registered email and number everywhere for consistency?

Would appreciate it if someone who has opened multiple demat accounts could share their experience.

Thanks.

This is fine if broker supports + symbol in email address. Dhan doesn’t support adding any other symbol than @

Offcourse.

Nope doesn’t matter. Keep whatever you want.

Coming to the issue you might face, by having different email addresses by adding + whenever you face any issue and you need to mail to broker, your email address will not be recognised by their systems. So your query may or may not solve.. you can’t send mails with email having+

Why do you want multiple emails when you can use same email for all?

Having same email has many advantages. Like you can easily get single consolidated statement from CDSL / NSDL. Which will show all your investments in single PDF.

If you still want (slightly) different email then use “dot” technique instead of “plus” technique. (only applicable for Gmail) As plus technique may not work at many places.

myname@gmail.com, my.name@gmail.com, m.y.n.a.m.e@gmail.com

All these are considered as aliases by Gmail. You can use first for broker1 and second for broker2.

I would recommend same email and same mobile.

But I had account with Upstox and Dhan. Email address were same but mobile numbers were different. Did not cause any issue.
