Dear Dhan Team, @PravinJ @Naman @Poornima @Divyesh @Hardik @JayK @Mohseen_Usmani @RahulDeshpande
I would like to request a feature that I believe would benefit both traders and Dhan.
Currently, Dhan allows Intraday (INTRA) trading in expiring commodity contracts (such as Crude Oil and Natural Gas) on their expiry day. This is an excellent feature because it enables traders to participate in expiry-day opportunities while still keeping the broker’s risk under control.
I request Dhan to introduce the same facility for NSE Stock Options on their expiry day.
Proposed Implementation
-
Allow only Product Type: INTRA for stock options on expiry day.
-
Do not allow Delivery/Carry Forward positions.
-
Auto square-off all remaining positions around 3:00 PM (or any suitable cut-off time decided by the Risk Management Team).
-
If liquidity is a concern, initially enable this feature only for:
-
Nifty 50 stocks, or
-
A selected list of highly liquid stock options.
-
Why this makes sense
Since these would be intraday-only option positions, the overnight risk is completely eliminated. This keeps the feature aligned with Dhan’s risk management framework while allowing traders to participate in expiry-day opportunities.
One of the biggest attractions of stock option expiry is the high risk-to-reward potential. The Risk can be very less while reward can be really good hence it can help us to grow on such days. I have observed that experienced traders and larger market participants frequently capitalize on these opportunities because, in many cases, the downside can be relatively limited compared to the potential reward.
Currently, many retail traders are unable to participate through Dhan simply because trading in expiring stock options is not permitted.
Benefits for Dhan
-
Increased trading activity and option volumes.
-
Higher brokerage revenue from expiry-day participation.
-
Better customer satisfaction.
-
A feature that differentiates Dhan from many competitors.
-
Risk remains controlled since positions are intraday-only and can be mandatorily squared off before market close.
This would essentially be the same concept that Dhan already follows for commodity expiry contracts but extended to NSE stock options with appropriate risk controls.
I sincerely request the team to evaluate this feature. I believe many option traders would appreciate this addition and actively use it. Kindly provide this at the earliest.
Thank you for understanding our need.
