Lot Size Revision in Nifty Bank & Nifty Midcap Select

Hi Traders

The National Stock Exchange of India has announced a revision in the market lot sizes of BankNifty & Nifty Midcap Select, effective from April 25, 2025.

As per the circular NSE/FAOP/67372, the market lot size for Nifty Bank will be revised from 30 to 35, while the lot size for Nifty Midcap Select will increase from 120 to 140. There is no change in the lot sizes for other key indices including Nifty 50 (75), Nifty Financial Services (65), and Nifty Next 50 (25).

This revision will not affect existing monthly expiry contracts for April, May, and June 2025. Contracts expiring on April 24, May 29, and June 26, 2025, will continue to trade with the current lot sizes i.e 30. The revised market lots will first apply to the July 2025 expiry, which is scheduled for expiry on July 31, 2025. All new contracts generated after the end of trading on April 24, 2025, and made available from April 25 onward will reflect the new lot sizes.

A key point to note is that all quarterly contracts traded from April 25, 2025, onwards will reflect the revised lot sizes. This means contracts expiring in September 2025, December 2025, and March 2026 will be impacted by the lot size revision. They will have revised lot size from April 25. It is critical to keep this in mind while carrying forward any open positions beyond April 24 in these contracts. Positions initiated prior to the revision, using the older lot sizes, may face significant challenges in exit post-revision, as the market will no longer support trading in those lot sizes.

So plan your trades and strategies accordingly.

Regards,
Naman
