Hello API Traders,
We introduced a massive update to our trading APIs a few weeks back - DhanHQ APIs v2 and we are happy to see the overwhelming response that our tech stack has received.
We have always believed that the API, Algo and Systematic traders needed simple, stable and robust trading APIs and we are happy to see the usage of DhanHQ APIs stack. We are pleased that ~3-4% of all trades are directly punched via DhanHQ Trading APIs, and if we consider trades that are placed via multiple partner integrations that DhanHQ has, this is a very significant number.
Not to miss mentioning that DhanHQ Trading APIs run on the same incredible DEXT trading engine where we continue to enhance core performance of our transaction processing systems. Some key highlights of our Trading APIs:
- Now over >90% of all orders on Dhan are processed in under 25 ms.
- Additionally, our now enhanced limits on API usage are able to serve almost all possible use-cases.
- Large API based traders are able to seamlessly execute with Order Slicing APIs
- Risk Management via Kill Switch APIs
DhanHQ has ensured that our Trading APIs are free of charges, and we continue to offer Data APIs at very competitive prices. Some key highlights:

In our continued interactions with many API based / Algo traders, we have realised that a lot of data or related processes which are required to build trading systems are not available to them. This increases time at the user’s end to build out, aggregating data from multiple sources and at times, leads to failure as well. In Version 2, as part of our commitment to make systematic trading easy and accessible, we are adding features which will help users not worry about gathering this data or processing it at their end.
With this insight, today we are adding a new data tool to this API suite, which will help building Options Strategies seamlessly.
Introducing: Option Chain with Greeks on DhanHQ API
This highly requested feature is now live and ready for all API Trades, Algo Traders and Developers using DhanHQ V2 APIs. The Option Chain API brings unmatched flexibility and speed, designed to seamlessly integrate with your trading systems and provide you with comprehensive data to make informed trading decisions.
Earlier, while coding Options Strategy, it often involved manual greeks calculation which used to be time consuming, and also required statistical knowledge, depending on the model to choose and various variables that needed to be assumed. With Option Chain API, you get the power of our Advanced Option Chain - which is loved by all option traders on Dhan and what also powers our Strategy Builder and other analytical tools.
This API includes all the option greeks - Delta, Theta, Vega, Gamma, Open Interest (OI), Volume, Last Traded Price, Best Bid/Ask and Implied Volatility (IV) across all strikes for any underlying. This is a complete package of information for options trading. Not only this, the data is served in real-time, making sure there are no processing delays at our end and the greeks value is all as per the Last Traded Price.
All of this data is available in a single endpoint, making it extremely simple for you to poll the data at once. We have even added fields like Previous Close, Previous OI and Volume, so that you can do comparisons easily on day gainers/losers via any parameter. And even top bid/ask for you to filter best possible opportunities. The applications of this very API and the flexibility of building systems on the basis of this data is vast.
Note: If you’re already using DhanHQ V2, the Option Chain API is available immediately for integration. For those on Version 1, we strongly recommend migrating to V2 by 31st December 2024, as V1 will no longer be supported post that.
Since Open Interest data is not refreshed every second/ within a second by the exchanges, and also as this endpoint serves a lot of data at once, we are keeping the rate limits to one request in three seconds for now.
This is just the beginning - more powerful APIs and updates are on the way! We can’t wait to hear about the incredible systems you build with DhanHQ APIs.
