The option to update the average price is still not visible even after 72 hours of shares being received in CDSL and 48 hours since those were available in Dhan web portal. This is extremely disappointing and unacceptable. I had created an account on Dhan after going through your forums and asking your helpdesk team about the possibility of updating the average price for off market transfer shares that are transferred to the Dhan account. Your helpdesk teams until today have repeatedly maintained the same story that the option will be available after 24 hours of shares transfer, but this is clearly not true. There is no option for updating the cost price and infact the price of the day of transfer is being taken as cost price. this has thrown the P&L out of picture for me.
As an experiment, I had only transferred 4 scrips and I still need to transfer about 15 more. If this is the situation and I need to constantly reach out to the helpdesk team for updating the same from the backend, then I might as well look for another broker. I really wonder if I made a mistake.
For now i have shared the details over email but pls tell me what is the recourse for future, I can’t be talking to your helpdesk team over and over again after each transfer.
Update: Finally after much hue and cry the option is visible. But it asks me to record one single trade date and average price even if I bought in multiple tranches. Please tell me why cant I add cost price per trade. Example if I originally bought 100 shares in 4 parts on different dates, I should be allowed to add cost price for each of these 4 with corresponding date, upto the total of 100 shares.
If this is not done, then the trade date for all 100 shares will be a single date and this will give wrong capital gains reports when I generate one.
As we discussed over the call and reviewed with our team, you’ll be able to update the overall average price of the stocks transferred to our platform. Also, this won’t affect your tax report.
Hi @Siyanka thank you for calling back. appreciate this.
However as replied on email I don’t agree that tax reports are not impacted if I can only update a single trade date, regardless of the actual purchase dates. The example I provided on email - I bought 10 shares of on 22-Aug-2023 (qualifying for long-term capital gain) and 20 shares on 02-Aug-2024 (qualifying for short-term capital gain if sold by 01-Aug-2025). If I’m required to provide just one date for these trades, how will Dhan accurately calculate long-term and short-term gains in my tax report. Could you explain.
Hi @PravinJ kindly let me know. pls also confirm how would updaing a single trade date not impact the tax pnl report in case there are multiple trades.
