I recently transferred mutual fund units from my previous Demat account to my Dhan Demat account via CDSL Easiest.
The units are now visible in my Dhan account after OTP confirmation. However, the individual purchase transactions and historical dates were not carried over, resulting in the entire holding being consolidated under the transfer date as the date of acquisition.
Because of this, the portal is incorrectly showing potential redemptions as taxable under Short-Term Capital Gains (STCG), even though the underlying units were acquired long-term.
Looking forward to your prompt assistance.
@SangitaPareek move back to your old broker as dhan does not support adding transferred mutual fund buy averages and also they don’t consider transferred mutual funds in their tax reports I don’t know if it is any glitch or their system is designed like this. Also if you have moved from zerodha then trust me dhan is not even 1 percent reliable than that of zerodha.
I am talking in terms of investing and reporting if you take trading features in consideration then no doubt dhan has good features as compared to zerodha but even the features are not reliable and can fail anytime. Also recently I am having an issue in the app and the support team just keep sending email that this is resolved now but it is not and I again share screenshot then they call and just speak their script like clear data of dhan app reinstall it turn off dns of your mobile etc etc but do not share the query to technical team.
My suggestion would be don’t rely on dhan they have good features no doubt but when you require any support especially in case of technical support they will piss you off you will be frustrated but they will not be able to solve that. Also the reporting mechanism of their system I don’t know which engineer has made it maybe the engineer was drunk as I recently opened my account and I didn’t even made any mutual fund transaction but dhan mf order statement was showing 300000 rs mutual fund purchases and the purchases were shown in the schemes that I have not ever purchased even outside dhan they were not part of my whole mutual fund portfolio so I don’t know from where dhan fetched that data as they were not even in mf central. Switch out of dhan.
P.S don’t remove this post Dhan moderators.
Hey @SangitaPareek @Paras_Bhandari ,
We are reviewing this.
Hi @SangitaPareek
Thanks for highlighting this. We understand why the STCG/LTCG classification can be confusing after transferring your Mutual Fund units to Dhan.
For units transferred through CDSL Easiest, we receive the transferred holdings and transfer details from the depository. However, the original purchase dates and transaction-level acquisition history are not included in the transfer data.
Because of this, we currently uses the transfer date for displaying the STCG/LTCG classification for these units, which may not reflect the actual holding period of your investments.
We’re working on improving this experience. We also working to introduce real-time tax implications based on the redemption amount, so you get a clearer view of the potential tax impact before placing a redemption request.
@Mrunmayi_Vaity
Hi thanks for your assistance and reply in the email however there are some additional details I have to mention in the email you replied I have replied back with my personally created excel simulating all the mutual fund entries (buy and sell) and the short term loss that comes out to be don’t match the short term loss mentioned in dhan capital gains statement for mutual funds. Also in the excel I created I have only taken the transactions for mutual fund done in soa format as in my dhan account I have only sold mutual fund units in soa form so capital gains apply only to them I have not considered demat mutual fund orders.
Also I have shared the screenshot of the order statement or order history of mutual funds from the journal by dhan and in that also there are many transactions of date before the date my account was opened.
I request you to kindly check and provide resolution for that also.
Hey @Paras_Bhandari ,
Following our discussion over call, the mutual fund value has now been updated across all statements. This was an account-specific scenario. Thanks for highlighting it.
@Mrunmayi_Vaity
Thanks for your assistance on this matter. I confirm that this is now resolved and journal is also updated.
I think that sharing this problem in the made for trade community has resulted in faster resolution of this problem.
Really impressed by the dhan support but there should be some improvement in the customer care executives to solve the problems.
Like my personal suggestion would be yesterday I created a support email regarding holding summary query which I also discussed with you which is not solved yet but I know it will be solved soon.
But what I was sharing was on support call customer care executives were saying me to try old age resolutions like clear data of the dhan app check for any update uninstall and then again install app and change internet provider turn off dns of your phone etc etc instead of raising my query to technical support team.
Like in this todays digital era where trading is automated and ai is being used in trading these resolutions are very normal and every person try these as their first step before contacting support of any broker. So instead of wasting time in these old and not working steps support team should immediately raise any problem relating to app or web (like in my case holding summary problem) to tech team.
Thanks for the update and for working on this!
Do you have an ETA for when these changes will go live?
Hi @SangitaPareek
We’re aiming to have these changes live by November and will share updates with the community as we get closer to rollout.
