Transferred Mutual Fund to DHAN Demat from other DEMAT not reflecting in Portfolio

I recently transferred some stocks and MF from one broker DEMAT to Dhan DEMAT. Strangely as per Dhan Support, I can’t redeem the transferred MF in Dhan DEMAT from Dhan!!! Even the MF are not in Portfolio, and they will stay in Ext MF section!! Its really disappointing and Dhan team not disclose this (maybe I missed this info). Otherwise never would have transferred to Dhan. Now I am stuck. @PravinJ Can you please fix this feature for Dhan Demat.

Hi @MajuN2024

Just to share a little context. When you transfer mutual funds in Demat format to Dhan, we only receive the unit holdings, not the full folio or transaction history (like purchase NAV, date, or folio number) from the CDSL

Without these key details, if we showed them under the regular portfolio section, it could lead to incorrect valuations and misleading performance insights — something we want to avoid to protect your investment view.

That’s why these funds currently appear in the External MF section

We’re already working on enabling full Mutual Fund capabilities for transferred Demat units. It’s work-in-progress, As soon as it’s live, you’ll be the first to know.

Thanks a lot for your reply @Saurav.P . Eagarly waiting for the new feature.

I dont have any MF in DEMAT but Just curious.

So are your MF stuck? Can you sell them if you want?

Hi @amish

The Mutual Funds aren’t stuck at all.
They’re securely held in the investor Demat account with CDSL.

While you can’t place any buy/sell orders for these transferred MFs on Dhan just yet, you can still view and track them from the ‘External MF’ section on Dhan.

We’re actively working on enabling full order support soon!

If you can not sell then effectively, its stuck.

Sorry but if all i can do is track even after transferring funds to dhan is track then what is the point of this? I can track those funds without even transferring by refreshing external portfolio through mfcentral

Hi @rrhc1504

I know this has been a gap and it’s taken longer than anyone would like, but we’re on it. Full transaction support for transferred Demat MFs is coming soon- you’ll see this option in our upcoming release.

HI @MajuN2024 & @rrhc1504

The feature is now live!
You can start investing in your transferred mutual funds directly on Dhan.

@Saurav.P Thanks a lot for bringing this so soon. I have checked my account in Dhan but sadly the transferred MF (SBI Gold Fund and Motilal Nasdaq 100) are still in Ext MF section, not move into MF portfolio. Can you please support? Thank you

Hi @MajuN2024

We’ve identified the issue and have made the necessary fixes on our end.
Your transferred units (SBI Gold Fund and Motilal Nasdaq 100) should start reflecting correctly in the main Mutual Fund Portfolio view by tomorrow.

Thanks a lot. Its showing now.  :star_struck:

@Saurav.P The same issue is happening with me as well; I have transferred my mutual fund holding from another demat to Dhan. It is showing in Dhan’s DP holding statement as well as in the CDSL Easiest portal with the Dhan BO ID, but the same is not reflected in the portfolio. I cannot make a sell request or add more units, as it is not reflecting in my portfolio.
My UCC is ZBZG50896V, please help me out.

Hi @Leena_Thombare .

Thanks for sharing the details - we checked your UCC.

Your units haven’t appeared in the Dhan MF portfolio because the Demat Mutual Fund account isn’t activated yet on your profile. When this is not enabled, transferred MF units don’t auto-reflect in the portfolio, even though they appear in CDSL / DP holding statements.

You can activate it in a few seconds:

Dhan app → Mutual Funds → Portfolio → Activate Demat MF

Once you enable it, your transferred units will auto-sync.

If you need help on any step, just let us know - happy to guide you.

Thanks @Saurav.P for the reply.
With the help of Mr. Vaibhav from the Dhan team, I enabled the Demat mutual fund. Out of the five mutual funds, four have already begun to reflect in my portfolio, while one is still awaiting an update because the NAV has not been updated. From the afternoon, it has been displaying the message “NAV update in progress”. I’m hopeful it can be resolved by tomorrow EOD.

Also, in the future, please allow the Regular Fund to be transacted from the Dhan demat. I have already transferred one Regular MF to Dhan, but I am stuck because Dhan only allows Direct MF for buy/sell. Now I’ve put back this regular fund to the original demat.

Hi @Leena_Thombare,

Your scheme has now been updated in your portfolio.

I also wanted to share a bit of context so it doesn’t feel confusing later. SEBI rules don’t allow a single platform to offer both Regular and Direct mutual funds under the same setup. Since Dhan is built fully on the Direct model, we’re not allowed to enable buy/sell of Regular funds here. That’s the only reason your Regular folio couldn’t continue after you moved it in.

I know this can feel restrictive, and it’s a genuine pain point for users who consolidate folios. Your feedback is completely valid, and we’re already discussing how to handle these situations better without breaking compliance.

If you need anything else or if something feels off, just let me know - happy to help.

@Saurav.P Thanks for the response; now all funds are updated in the portfolio.
Just to give input on the chatbot, I transferred the Regular fund to Dhan as instructed by the bot. This was already communicated to Mr. Vaibhav. If you require the discussion screenshot for bot improvement, I can send it to you.

Hi @Leena_Thombare,

Thanks for pointing this out. We’ll review the feedback and fix the chatbot flow.
