Watch lists enhancements and Market Screener Filters

To increase the number of symbols per watchlist that can be added in a single watchlist:

I had requested to Dhan through an email to increase the number of symbols that can be added in a single watchlist. One of the staff from Dhan reverted back to my email mentioning that it nullifies the purpose of creating a watchlist if we add too many scripts in a watchlist.

I do not understand how adding too many instruments nullifies the purpose of creating a watchlist if any trader wants all scripts of a specific category in a single watchlist but if the number exceeds 100 which is the maximum capacity of a single custom watchlist. I can understand perhaps at the most it will slow down the loading of the web platform or the watchlist panel in some low configuration machines and at some places with slow internet speeds. But having adequate capacity of the watchlists gives immense convenience to the traders.

Try to understand when we want to analyse any chart on tv.dhan.co or plan and submit any trade on Dhan Web Platform, if the symbol is readily available in the watchlist, its way easier to select the script directly from the watchlist and focus on the trade parameters quickly rather than typing the name of the symbol in the search box which itself is boring doing it repeatedly for every trade and then waiting for the results to populate which takes its own time of at least a few seconds. Then we have to search for our relevant desired script whether the stock or the Futures contract or a specific options contract from the multiple options contracts that the search result displays. This really makes the whole process of selecting a script for either chart analysis or submitting a trade very much time consuming and tedious.

We never know which stocks or futures contract we are going to find our potential trade based on our analysis. So, it’s always convenient to have all the underlying stocks with FNO or all the futures from front month or next month readily available in one list if possible. Now, if we have a ready-made watchlist of our desired scripts like all the underlying stocks with FNOs on NSE or all the Futures contracts for the Current month or the next month available with us, it’s far more convenient and way faster to choose the script from the watchlist and directly open that chart for our analysis or the Order window for our trade rather than wasting time and energy for searching our script through the search box every time we have to place a trade.

Now if there is limited capacity of scripts per watchlist then all the FNO stocks or all the futures contracts cannot be accommodated in a single watchlist. Then again, we have to divide the same watchlist into two or more which will then increase the number of watchlists. Again, you have capped the number of custom watchlists that a trader can save. This creates hurdles and puts restriction on our speed of working with the platform. Increasing the number of scripts per watchlist is not something out of the world we are requesting. Many other brokers like Sharekhan, Fyers, Interactive brokers, Zerodha all have such extensive capacity for their custom watchlists. Even native Tradingview software has a capacity of 1000 (One Thousand) scripts per watchlist.

So, my request is if you cannot increase the capacity of each watchlist to unlimited or even one thousand which is equivalent to that of original Tradingview platform, at least increase the capacity adequately enough to include all the number of stocks having Futures and Options on NSE. All the futures contracts available on NSE under all the categories like Indices, Stocks and Currencies etc. So a reasonable number of 500 or even 300 should suffice instead keeping it at meagre 100.
Also increase the number of custom watchlists that can be created if possible.

From some of the earlier posts on Dhan community I came to know that it’s very difficult to implement the import feature using CSV file from other platforms. But if Dhan has integrated so well with Tradingview that the tv.dhan.co gives exact same feeling of native Tradingview software. If Tradingview allows us to export the watchlists then why Dhan cannot allow us to import those same watchlists at least from Tradingview if not from any other broker platform?

Hi @trader7626

Thank you for your suggestion. We have noted your feedback about optimizing the watchlist more as per user experience.

Also, we request you to kindly refer this

Hi @Divyesh and @PravinJ

Referring to the reply given by @PravinJ

@PravinJ is saying that they have provided 10 watchlists with ability to add 100 scripts each

However, I really want to tell you that many of the clients who are switching over to Dhan from other broker platforms like Interactive Brokers, Sharekhan or Fyers would be in habit to have such a long extensive capacity of their custom watchlists to include such long lists like all the stocks having Fno or all the futures of front month or next month in one single list. These kind of watchlists are not unsual and we have been used to working with these kind of list for years. Even @amolv also has requested the same feature in watchlist to have more capacity for the custom watchlists so that we can include all the stocks having futures or options on NSE or all the Current month futures in one single list. That is what many traders like us are used to when we were trading with other brokers. Also it’s a basic feature and not something extra ordinary requiring excessive computer resources.

We never felt the platforms of those other brokers slowing down anytime due to such long watchlists. At the worst-case scenario, it may take a couple of seconds more to load the quotes of the symbols when the market is live which is still acceptable and not a great issue as such but having such watchlists adds tremendous convenience while working on the platform and it avoids juggling between the different watchlists for searching different symbols. Any time it is still faster than having to search for a particular symbol when we do not find it in our watchlist as the process of typing for the symbol and watching for the typos while typing takes more time and energy and then search bar takes its own time of few more seconds to populate the results so total time to get to the script by searching through the search bar is even longer than what @PravinJ thinks it might slow down or cause lagging and crunching on the browser.

Even Interactive brokers are offering only 100 active market data lines at a time which means we are able to see only 100 symbol quotes at a time as far as displaying the market data quotes is concerned. However, at least they are not putting any limit on the number of quote monitors which means the watchlists that we can create. Also, they are offering us to enter as many numbers of market data lines as we want which means practically there is no limit to the number of symbols that we can add to their quote monitors or watchlists. As long as we are able to have all the specific symbols of a particular category in one watchlist, we are good to go. We can always scroll down to the bottom of the list to get to the symbol anytime which is always faster than searching for the symbol.

By the way watchlist symbols are not always used for only watching the live quotes in the markets. Watchlists are also used to just be able to select the symbol for opening up a particular chart or opening up the order ticket window. Many times, we are not really bothered about what quotes are visible for all the symbols in a particular watchlist. We use it to only open a chart or the order window which is the main purpose for having all such symbols in one watchlist and having such extra capacity of the watchlists.

Also note that it was the old days when the computers used to have outdated processors and limited RAM in the machines. Now most of the latest computers are well equipped to handle such kind of miniscule extra load in the browsers. Those traders who are really bothered by such lagging or crunch on the browser will not obviously create such watchlists. So do not worry about the lagging or crunch on the clients machines. You please bother about how your servers should handle such watchlists.

So, our request is to please let your clients decide how much long watchlist they want to have, let the users decide how much information is really an overload for them. As far as streaming is concerned it is fine even if you stream only hundred live price updates at a time. As such also most of the user monitors are not big enough to display 100 symbols at a time. So, when we scroll the list the application has to display only those quotes which are visible in the space of the monitor. I think that is how it works with Interactive brokers or Sharekhan or any other broker who offers such long watchlists but still limited display of live quotes at any single point of time.

If your IT team does not know how to manage such watchlists in your platforms please let them consult the IT teams from other brokers.

The reason for writing such lengthy descriptive note is that we really need such watchlists with additional capacity to at least include 300 to 500 scripts in a list. Just consider somebody might want to have Nifty 500 list in his custom watchlist. As such also the list of watchlists which are available under ‘Indices Details’ icon on tv.dhan.co are also not displaying live quotes instantly and they are lagging by a couple of seconds which is perfectly fine. But we still want to have such lists in our custom watchlists at the earliest please. It is really boring and tedious to search any symbol for opening a order window while trying to place a trade.

@trader7626 thank you for explaining the issues here , we really need those big watchlist to scan all the stocks. I cam from sharekhan and habitual of having such big watchlists but here in dhan it is very tedious and time consuming to have multiple watchlists and that is the reason why i again shifted sharekhan. So team please if it is possible try to add this feature and i think this is Just the basic functionality and will not cost you more as well

Market Screener and Watchlists features:

A sincere request to all the Dhan Community members to please support this post by liking, replying and commenting if anybody would like to see these features in Dhan platform so that it will be given priority by the development team at Dhan.

Some of the other enhancements and improvement which we would like to see in watchlists and market screener.

Market screener on web platform:

  1. Filter to find all the stocks having Futures Contracts and Options contracts (Underlying stocks with FNO) on NSE and BSE. These are available on Dhan website but why are they not made available in Dhan Web Trading platform?
Please bring those lists in the web trading platform as well. It will be easier for us to make our custom watchlists.

  2. Filter to find all the Futures contracts from NSE or BSE in one list or with separate filters for Stocks, Indices and Currency futures which should also show the Lot sizes and margin requirements for trading.

  3. Filter to find all the front month, Next month, Far month futures contracts with margin requirements and lot sizes.

Basically, there should be these basic filters available first to check what scripts, assets and their derivatives are available on which exchanges and then we would like to apply some of the fancy filters like price gainers and volume losers and OI gainers etc. which you have already given us on the Markets page.

Watchlists features and improvements:

  1. Increase the capacity of each custom watchlist to at least 500 if possible if not to unlimited or to even 1000 scripts which is same as Tradingview.
    Examples:
    a) A watchlist of all the stocks from NSE which have FNO contracts (Underlying stocks with FNO) from NSE or BSE.
    b) A list of all the Front month or Next month or Far month Futures contracts.

  2. Increase the number of custom watchlists which can be created by users if possible.

  3. Ability to add multiple scripts from Market screener into the watchlists to build our custom watchlists similar to Tradingview native platform.
Searching for and adding each symbol manually is very boring, tiring and time consuming. There should be ability to select multiple scripts from the Market Screener and copy paste or simply Add to watchlist option in the right click context menu.

  4. Ability to add any of the ‘Sectoral Indices constituents’ directly into our custom watchlists which are available on tv.dhan.co under Indices Details icon. Having these watchlists as our custom watchlists directly into the watchlist panel will add great convenience. Currently these are available only on tv.dhan.co and not on web trading platform.

  5. The custom watchlist should have group headers to categorize different scripts like Auto, Banks, IT, Pharma etc. or with any other heading the user may want to categorize. The groups should be collapsible within the watchlist to reduce the amount of scrolling required for long watchlists.

  6. The watchlist panel itself should be made collapsible to increase the space for other informational objects like charts whenever required.

  7. The watchlist panel in the Strategy Builder of Options Trader:
The watchlist panel should also be available even in the Strategy Builder page of the options Trader platform so that once a custom watchlist of optionable scripts is prepared it should be readily available for the traders to select any script from the list. The traders need not have to keep searching for the script through the search box.

  8. Drag & Drop facility for Webhook Page:
Ability to add scripts to Webhook trade planner using just drag and drop of the script from the watchlist.
On the Webhook URL page, instead of searching for the script through a search box if we can just drag and drop the script from the watchlist to the order planner on the Webhook page then it will be much more convenient and faster to plan the trades on Webhook page also. This can be possible for at least the stocks and Futures contracts that we have saved in our watchlist.
For the options contracts again, we will have to search in the search box only. Alternatively, another Webhook Page can be added to the Options Trader platform also, so that after planning the strategy in options trader if we want to generate the Json for the same and submit it on Tradingview Alert window through webhook we need not go back to the Web trader. We should be able to generate Json right from the options trader platform itself.

  9. Futures contracts in the watchlist:

Auto Roll Over Feature: If a custom watchlist is made with Futures contracts only or any Futures contracts are added in any custom watchlist, they should auto rollover to the next contracts at expiry so that users do not need to keep adding the new contacts every month after the current contracts have expired and removed from the system and the watchlist. Alternatively there should be the entire list of Front month, Next month and Far month futures contracts available to be added as a custom watchlist in the watchlist panel.

Display Important Parameters: The Futures contracts should display in the watchlist panel itself the following parameters

  1. Expiry dates
  2. Lot sizes
  3. MWPL Status if applied to any Future contract by NSE

These three important parameters should be displayed in the watchlist panel itself just adjacent to the symbol name so that without opening the details summary page of a particular Futures contract, we can quickly know the lot size, what date the contract is expiring and also whether the particular contract is currently available for trade or not.

Tender Period of Commodity Futures: In Commodities, Base metals and Bullion Futures contracts have a ‘Tender Period’ which is the last week of the contract expiry when it is not available for trading. The exact date of the beginning of the ‘Tender Period’ should be mentioned at least in the detail summary page of the contract.

Since Dhan has integrated with Tradingview so well that most users and traders will have tendency to expect the same features and enhancements which they have experienced on the native Tradingview platform. Dhan should facilitate to import the watchlists, at least from Tradingview if not from any other broker platform. So that most traders who are used to working on Tradingview previously will find significant similarity and synchronization while working on Dhan platform as well. This will add great convenience for the traders.

There may be many more fancy and advanced feature enhancements possible for the watchlists and Market screeners which are already suggested by many users on the community platform but I think these are some of the basic ones which should be implemented for the practical purposes and for the sake of convenience at the earliest.
Please understand that in the pursuit of developing fancy advanced trading features the technical team has forgotten and ignored some of the basic primitive features in your platform which is causing lot of inconvenience while working with your platform.
