Why I can't sell Far OTM stock options in Dhan?

I am planning to shift from Zerodha to Dhan, but I’ve encountered a surprising issue: Dhan isn’t allowing me to sell far OTM stock options. Can someone clarify what went wrong?

@Naman Could you please explain what allows Zerodha to accept this type of order and Dhan not? I have been doing this with Zerodha for over half a decade now and have taken multiple deliveries as well. I would also like to know what the charges would be if OTM stock options become ITM and delivery happens automatically by the system.

@PravinJ @Mohseen_Usmani Do you have any idea?

Hi @Divaksh,

You can place a Normal (Delivery) order for all contracts. However, for Intraday trading, only contracts with a duration of 45 days or less are permitted. For more details, we request you to refer to the Table 1: Derivative contracts allowed for trading in our risk policy under the Products section.

Sounds good, it took a week to figure this out. There is no tooltip or documented help regarding this. Thanks for the clarification. I was able to take position today.

I am still unable to place the orders because Dhan is blocking certain types of orders, while other brokers are allowing them. Here is a detailed, annotated screenshot.

Let me know what types of orders are not allowed in Dhan. It is important to know this before completely shifting to Dhan.

Hi @Divaksh

Please note that certain F&O contracts are restricted as per our Risk Policy to prevent price manipulation and ensure client protection.

For any contract to be available for trading:

  • It must have a minimum open interest of 10 lots
  • The expiry should be within 18 months from the current date

You can read our full Risk Policy here.
