Sneak Preview: 20-Depth for Options Trading (in Beta) on Dhan

Dear All,

We are super excited to bring to you 20 Depth (Level 3 Market Data) for you on Options Trading for NSE traded indices, stocks and futures. This will be available for Nifty, Bank Nifty, Fin Nifty, Nifty MidCap Select, and all Stocks that are traded on NSE.

> This shall be available only on Dhan’s Charting Console with TradingView: tv.dhan.co in coming days.

Super traders will know that the only thing that is live on charts is the bid-ask, with 20-depth or Level 3 market data you will now see the depth across the spectrum - as it happens. We also bring this to you on TradingView charts for you to view it on the Price Ladder from where you can directly place orders.

You will soon find an option to turn the same on will be available for you in settings on Dhan’s TradingView Charts for select users who are actively trading on Dhan and will be later rolled out to everyone.

Here is a sneak preview of how the 20-Depth looks on Charts:

Important Note: As you can see Dhan brings 20-Depth to you at an lightning-fast speeds - trades and ticks, just as it happens. To view this as it is - ensure you are on high-speed internet connections and also keep a watch on the browser memory consumption to avoid your systems getting bit slow as there is simply too much data that gets streamed in a very short time.

You can always turn 20-depth off from the settings and switch back to 5-depth as a normal experience. Additionally while we continue to build this, we will reduce the ticks to 4-5 per second where it is useful and valuable to you. For now, we are simply demonstrating our tech capabilities to render data at an incredible speed and the underlying infrastructure we have build to make things for you.

If you get access to the preview, have fun  and come back to us with your feedback.

Thank you
pj

Thanks @PravinJ

Hi, one question here. Since 4-5 ticks per second is almost real time. Why not make it TBT?

Though I do not need TBT at all but just trying to understand the reasoning behind that.

Example we shown above in video is nearly all ticks.

You will consume lots of bandwidth in just few minutes, browsers won’t be able to handle it. We struggled to keep high performance machines running this on high speed internet.

Oh, okay! Don’t know then how and why some brokers are still using it. :woman_shrugging:

Hi @PravinJ just a suggestion - in future, if you could keep the normal 5 depth as lightening fast and remaining 15 as per reduced ticks to 4-5 per second. It would be ideal i guess.

Hi @Pradumya Well the source of data for 5-depth is usual connectivity that brokers have with exchanges and for what you see on 20-depth is via a dedicated infra we deploy for just the same reason.

As you can see, the speed of updates when we don’t throttle the ticks is insanely crazy and cannot be made use of. Do experience it when it goes live and you will also feel it should be reduced to few ticks in a second.

Definitely @PravinJ sir
The 5-depth is fast enough… though I was just suggesting over what could be ideal way to go for the 20-depth data. But yeah since you mentioned it’s two different setups to fetch the depth data I can understand it would be hard to program what I suggested…
Nevertheless, excited to experience the 20-depth data on Dhan app.

Thank you @Champion_Trader

Just keep a watch on memory consumption for the browser, it is not throttled at the moment. So enjoy

I got the beta for this. Working smoothly. Performance wise no issue at all up till now. But, honestly, this is something I believe doesn’t have much use for naked eyes traders.

5 seconds chart is much clearer than this feed.

If I am not wrong Upstox is also planning to launch single screen trading named as chart360 where we can enter and exit trade from the chart as well manage the open positions from the same screen something like “punch app” upstox might be inspired by punch broking app

Tried this nothing much to worry or load on browser or my net bandwidth, every thing was Butter smooth had done this on almost 3 tabs nothing wrong from myside

Hi @sunny123 Thank you, we continue to optimise this.

@PravinJ

The real benefit will be when it is relayed to the API with absolute minimum delay. If not TBT, then at least a 20 to 30 depth snapshot updated as fast as possible.

This would greatly help in identifying proper execution for a particular order and reduce impact costs for high-volume traders.

I kindly request you to consider this.

Hi @PravinJ ,

Some api user will be very happy if we get 4-5 ticks per second. This will help us in taking sniper shot entries.

Hello All,

Quick update: We have now limited the 20-depth to 5 ticks per second. It is far more usable in this form and can add real-value for traders who want to see depth + also in an meaningful and usable way.

The above example in video was to demonstrate how really fast exchange trades happen and our ability to render these on charts in the real-time as fast as we can.

We will continue to build on this further and as always open for your feedback. Very soon will be rolled out to all users on charts.

Thanks @Duck @Shally @Pradumya @Champion_Trader @Dhanush4777 @BIR @Nitinjawla @sunny123 @Tushar11 @avinashpaul01 for trying this out.
